Finally, an explanation.

If you've heard of the song 'Turning Japanese' by The Vapours you've probably heard the rather adult explanation that some people have come up with to explain the strange title.

The band however have always said that isn't the correct interpritation but they don't ever seem to offer the truth.

Well now someone has put forth a family friendly explanation:

"I remember when this song came out. Yes, "turning Japanese" refers to the perception that Americans and Brits had of the Japanese tourists and their apparent obsession with taking pictures. My guess is that the rumors of other meanings took hold because the video did not have a photography theme to it."

If you haven't heard the song...

Bitnome

DNA has four bases.

Neatly 4=2^2 so all bases can be represented in binary with only two bits.

e.g.

A: 00
T: 01
C: 10
G: 11

In the human genome there are (according to wikipedia) about 3 billion base pairs. If each base is substituted by its binary representation the human genome becomes 6 billion bits long, or 6 gigabits.

There are eight bits to a byte.

So 6 gigabits becomes 750000000 bytes or 0.75 gigabytes.

The human genome is 0.75GB

My hard drive has a capacity of 40 gigabytes, capable of storing the instructions to build 53 people.

Where have I gone wrong in my calculation?

You scored as Maximus. After his family was murdered by the evil emperor Commodus, the great Roman general Maximus went into hiding to avoid Commodus's assassins. He became a gladiator, hoping to dominate the colosseum in order to one day get the chance of killing Commodus. Maximus is valiant, courageous, and dedicated. He wants nothing more than the chance to avenge his family, but his temper often gets the better of him.
